Men's ice hockey defeats Air Force in overtime

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated Air Force, winning 3-2 in overtime on Friday, Feb. 11 at the Cadet Ice Arena.

Senior right wing Anthony Vincent tallied two points on the day with an assist and the game-winning goal for the Crusaders (9-19-2, 7-12-2 AHA). Holy Cross senior goaltender Erik Gordon made 35 saves on the day.

In the first period, Will Gavin continued his streak of scoring in eight straight games for the Falcons (11-14-2, 9-10-2 AHA). Goaltender Alex Schilling made 26 saves in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore left wing Jack Ricketts scored a goal with an assist from Vincent and senior defenseman Matt Slick at 3:14 of the period.
  • Gavin scored at 11:09 of the first period, tying the score for the Falcons.
  • After a scoreless second period, Willie Reim tacked on an unassisted goal to bring the Falcons up by one in the third period.
  • With 11:07 remaining in regulation, Slick brought the score to 2-2 for the Crusaders with an assist from junior right wing Jack MacNab and senior center Ryan Leibold.
  • Vincent scored the unassisted game winner in overtime with 1:22 remaining.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The two teams remained neck and neck in shots and faceoffs throughout the game. In the end, Holy Cross held the 39-37 edge in shots and 30-29 edge in faceoffs.
  • This marks Gordon's first win in net of the season.
UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will return to Cadet Ice Arena for a rematch with the Falcons on Saturday, Feb. 12.
  • Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
