Men's ice hockey sweeps Air Force

 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated Air Force, winning 3-2 on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Cadet Ice Arena. This marked a series sweep for the Crusaders after their 3-2 win in overtime on Friday, Feb. 11.

Sophomore left wing Jack Ricketts and junior defenseman Nick Hale both scored one goal and made one assist to lead the Crusaders (10-19-2, 8-12-2 AHA) to victory.
Holy Cross junior goaltender Matt Radomsky made 30 saves on the day.

Brandon Koch also earned one goal and one assist for the Falcons (11-15-2, 9-11-2 AHA). Goaltender Alex Schilling made 12 saves in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Hale started the night off with a power-play goal at 9:57 of the first period from a major penalty for kneeing on Air Force's Jacob Marti. Sophomore left wing Lucas Thorne and Ricketts provided assists on the goal.
  • Ricketts managed to get another point on the board during the same power play at 11:06 of the first period with assists from senior center Ryan Leibold and sophomore center Matt Guerra, bringing the score to 2-0.
  • Luke Rowe capitalized on a power-play opportunity at 18:16 of the first period, putting the first goal on the board for the Falcons.
  • Junior right wing Grayson Constable earned the third goal of the night for the Crusaders with assists from Leibold and Hale 47 seconds into the second period.
  • Brandon Koch brought the score within one for the Falcons with another power-play goal at 11:36 of the third period.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Falcons outshot the Crusaders 32-21 during the matchup.
  • Leibold leads the conference in points with 10 goals and 16 assists.
  • Hale is second in the conference in assists with 18 in total. Air Force's Koch leads with 20 assists.
UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will return home to host Army for a pair on Thursday, Feb. 17, and Friday, Feb. 18.
  • Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. both nights.
