Crusaders fall to the Eagles

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team came up short with a 3-2 loss against the Boston College Eagles, a Hockey East opponent. The Crusaders fall to 2-17-1 (1-13-0 Hockey East) and while the Eagles move to 11-7-1 overall and 9-5-0 in Hockey East standings. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Similar to the Friday night, the first period remained scoreless. Junior goalie Madison Beck was tested with 14 shots on goal and turned away each one. Holy Cross managed nine shots on goal.
  • The Eagles were first on the board with a goal from Abby Newhook at 2:28 in the second period. Boston College extended their lead with a goal at 7:11 from Deirdre Mullowney.
  • Holy Cross answered back at 13:43 with a goal from junior Lilly Feeney. She was assisted by junior Bryn Saarela and freshman Casey Borgiel
  • Before the end of the second period, Boston College managed one more score to hold a two-goal lead heading into the third period.
  • When the puck dropped to enter the third, senior Mary Edmonds wasted no time scoring a goal at 0:18. She was assisted by senior Sofia Smithson
  • Beck left the net at 18:27 in the third period, giving the Crusaders an extra skater, but the Eagles managed an empty net goal to secure the victory. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Feeney recorded her first goal of the season against the Eagles. She, now, owns three points on the season. 
  • Saarela posted her ninth point of the year. She leads the team in points and goals. Edmonds joins Saarela for most goals scored with four, after her swift goal on Saturday night.
  • Borgiel tallied her fourth assist and sits with five points on the season.
  • Smithson added her third assist of the season. She ranks third for most points with six, alongside junior Millie Sirum
  • The Eagles outshot the Crusaders 38-26.
  • Madison Beck tallied 34 saves adding to her season total, 412. She owns a 2.70 goals-against average with a save percentage of .922 for the year.
UP NEXT: 
  • Holy Cross will close out the calendar year with a road game against Boston University on Friday, Dec. 9. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
