Crusaders continue non-conference play at Franklin Pierce

The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team will continue their non-conference play with a weekend series with Franklin Pierce on Nov. 26 and 27. The Crusaders will arrive in Winchendon on Saturday night for a 7:30 p.m. slot at Jason Ritchie Arena. The teams will travel to Worcester for a 5 p.m. puck drop the following day.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS (2-14-1, 1-11-0 Hockey East): 
  • Holy Cross enters the weekend with an overall mark of 2-14-1 and 1-11-0 in Hockey East standings. Most recently, they suffered a loss against Brown, a non-conference opponent. The Crusaders fell 1-0 in Tuesday's contest.
  • Saarela remains the team-leader in point total at seven, from three goals and four assists. Additionally, she leads the team in assists alongside junior Millie Sirum who added her fourth on Saturday.
  • Freshman Alexia Moreau leads the team in goals with four.
  • The Crusaders have maintained close battles during faceoffs, winning forty-five percent on the season. Senior Mary Edmonds leads the team with 156 wins, followed by Moreau with 112. 
  • The Crusaders have killed seventy-five percent of their penalties and are fifteen percent on the powerplay. They have scored a power play goal in the last three out of four games.
  • The Holy Cross defense added seven more blocked shots on Tuesday. They have blocked 204 shots compared to their opponents' 141. Sophomore Emma Min still leads the roster with 27 blocks, closely followed by sophomores Carmen Elliott and Emilie Fortunato with 24.
  • Junior goalie Madison Beck and freshman Brooke Loranger have split time in net for Holy Cross this season. Beck had control of the net for the weekend series with Northeastern and at Brown. She owns 347 saves, a save-percentage of .920 and a goals-against average of 2.74 in 13 games.
  • Loranger has seen action in seven games for the Crusaders owning 181 saves with a save percentage of .900 and goals-against average of 3.35. She set a new single-game career high in saves with 42 against Maine.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE RAVENS (5-7-1): 
  • Franklin Pierce is coming off a weekend series with Sacred Heart on Nov. 18 and 19. Friday's matchup the Ravens fell to the Pioneers 3-1. The following day, Franklin Pierce defeated Sacred Heart 2-1, where the Ravens scored two unanswered goals in the third period. 
  • The Ravens have tallied seven power play goals on the year and hold an eighty-eight percent penalty kill rating.
  • Freshman Avery Farrell leads the Ravens in points (9) and goals (5). 
  • Freshman McKenzie Rich owns the most assists with five. 
  • Junior Suzette Faucher and freshman Jill Hertl has split time in goal for Franklin Pierce. In five games, Faucher has posted 228 saves. She holds a 3.57 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. Hertl has tallied 200 saves, a .948 save percentage and a goals-against average of 1.37 in eight games. 
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • These programs met twice during the 2021-22 season. The series fell to a 1-1 draw after the Crusaders won the first game but fell in the second. In the first contest, Holy Cross earned a shutout victory, winning 2-0. Bryn Saarela tallied a goal, while Millie Sirum, Mary Edmonds and Sofia Smithson recorded assists.
  • In the second game, Franklin Pierce responded with a shutout victory of their own, defeating the Crusaders 4-0.
