Balanced attack leads women’s basketball to victory against Conn. College

WORCESTER, Mass. – Four of five starters scored in double-figures as the Holy Cross women's basketball team rallied from an 11 point second quarter deficit to defeat Connecticut College 65-49 Sunday afternoon in the Hart Center Arena.

Junior Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored a game-high 16 points to pace the Crusaders (3-1). Sophomore Lindsay Berger followed up her first career double-double with a 13 point, nine rebound effort. Junior Janelle Allen matched Berger's scoring output (13) and senior Addisyn Cross totaled 12 points.

Jaycie Rojik led all Camels (1-3) with 13 points while Rebecca Oberman-Levine was four points shy of a double-double. Oberman-Levine had four blocks and a game-high 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Camels started strong using a potent three-point barrage. Following two Lindsay Berger free throws, the guests went on a 10-2 spurt to lead 20-12 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Conn. College built an 11 point lead one minute into the second quarter when Molly Cronin knocked down a triple. Seven straight by the Crusaders including a Berger second chance hoop and harm dropped the deficit to two possessions, 23-19. The Camels reestablished a multiple possession edge at 28-19.
  • Over the final 2:56 of the half, the Crusaders took a one point, 34-33 lead thanks to a 15-5 outburst with Power-Cassidy scoring seven markers for the Crusaders.
  • The Holy Cross run extended into the third quarter capping out at a 31-10 stretch to take the lead by 11 after a Berger lay-in. A sophomore Grace Munt steal resulted in an Allen and1 at the horn as the Crusaders were ahead 52-41 through three.
  • A Cross three on the left wing upped the margin to 20, 61-41 with 4:05 to go.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
  • Cross' consecutive free throw streak ended at 22 when she missed the second of two freebies in the third quarter.
  • Cross set a new personal high with five steals. She recorded three of her five thefts in the opening 3:11 of the third quarter.
