Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Holy Cross falls to Vermont

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team lost to #14 Vermont 3-0, in the second game of their two-game set. The Crusaders fall to 2-2-0 and 1-1-0 in Hockey East standings while the Catamounts move to 3-1-0 (1-1-0 Hockey East). 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The Catamounts opened the scoring halfway through the first period with a goal from Theresa Schafzahl on a power-play.
  • Schafzahl scored, again, in the second period to improve the lead.
  • Lily Humphrey increased the deficit with a third period goal.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Penalties played a large role in the afternoon with a total of 12, five against Holy Cross. Each team served a five-minute major in the first period.
  • The Crusaders were outshot 37-13. 
  • Junior goaltender Madison Beck tallied 34 saves on the night. After three starts, she averages 2.33 goals-against with a save percentage of .936. 
UP NEXT: 
  • Holy Cross returns to action on Oct. 14 and 15 when they play Hockey East opponent Providence. The Crusaders will travel to Rhode Island for game one and return home to host the second contest.
