HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Trailing early, senior Emma VanSeveren bumped a kill on to the open portion of the floor to pull the Crusaders within two 7-5. Four straight following the libero kill increased the host lead to 11-5. A freshman Madison Bailey ace put Holy Cross down 11-7 and a 6-1 Leopard run doubled up the margin 17-8. Lafayette would hang on for the 25-15 set win.
  • Holy Cross took a 7-6 lead in the second set when senior Halle Carter set up classmate Gracyn Benck for a kill. Sophomore Rian Millership leveled the set at 11-11 pummeling the ball on the right pin. With the set tied 15-15, Lafayette went on an 8-1 run to lead 23-16. Holy Cross strung together three straight points, but the Leopards clinched the set.
  • The Crusaders dropped their deficit to 7-6 when sophomores Lauren Halverson and Mia Hofacker blocked an attack attempt at the middle of the net. From there, the Leopards tallied eight in a row to lead 15-6. A freshman Gracie Reisman kill and a Reisman and Millership block was part of a 5-1 Crusader binge to make it a 16-11 set. Holy Cross could only muster three more points as Lafayette completed the sweep.
INSIDE THE BOX:
  • Abby Nieporte had 16 of the 37 Lafayette kills. She hit .500 with three aces.
  • Millership had a team-high five kills and team best three blocks while hitting .500.
