Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s ice hockey downed in overtime by RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team held a 2-1 lead into the third period however Atlantic Hockey Association foe RIT rallied to score two goals including the game-winner in overtime to win 3-2 Saturday afternoon at the Polisseni Center.
 
With the victory, the Tigers improve to 6-2-0, 5-1-0 AHA while the Crusaders drop to 1-7-0, 1-4-0 AHA.
 
THE GOALTENDERS:
  • Crusaders: sophomore Thomas Gale: 0-3-0, 30 saves, .909 save percentage.
  • Tigers: Tommy Scarfone 5-1-0, 27 saves, .941 save percentage.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME: 
  • 1st star: Elijah Gonsalves, RIT: game-winning goal, one point, +1, one blocked shot
  • 2nd star: Kobe Walker, RIT: one goal, one assist, two points, +1 one blocked shot.
  • 3rd star: Tommy Scarfone, RIT.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Jack Ricketts gobbled up a loose puck off the pads of Scarfone and scored from just outside the crease for the early Crusader lead with 9:15 left in the first period.
  • RIT's power play which was successful in Friday's tilt produced another goal to level the game 1-1 in the third period when Walker tipped home a juicy rebound off Gale's pads.
  • Junior Tyler Ghirardosi regained the edge towards the guest side 2-1 in the third putting a puck on net and past Scarfone during a scramble in front of the cage.
  • The Tigers tied the game in regulation and won it in three-on-three overtime.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Ricketts scored his third goal of the season. He leads the team in points (6) while ranking second in goals (3).
  • RIT was 4-for-9 (.444) on the power play in the series
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders return to the ice next Friday, November 4 for a 7 p.m. puck drop with AHA opponent Canisius in Buffalo.
