Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s ice hockey upended by RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team suffered a 5-2 loss to Atlantic Hockey Association foe RIT Friday evening at the Polisseni Center.
 
With the win, the Tigers remain in first place in the AHA at 5-2-0, 4-1-0 AHA while the Crusaders skid to 1-6-0, 1-3-0 AHA.
 
THE GOALTENDERS:
  • Crusaders: sophomore Thomas Gale: 0-2-0, 20 saves, .859 save percentage.
  • Tigers: Tommy Scarfone: 4-1-0, 27 saves, .931 save percentage.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME: 
  • 1st star: Gianfranco Cassaro, RIT: two goals, one assist, three points, one blocked shot
  • 2nd star: Grady Hobbs, RIT: one goal, one assist, two points, two blocked shots.
  • 3rd star: Aiden Hansen-Bukata, RIT: two assists, two points, +1, two blocked shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • RIT built a 2-0 lead two minutes into the game as Cassaro back handed a shot inside the right post just 52 seconds into the battle. 1:20 later Hobbs netted a score one-timing a pass from Cassaro for the early 2-0 edge.
  • The Tigers tacked on an insurance score just 4:56 into the second for the 3-0 lead.
  • At the 10:28 mark in the second, Matt Guerra staked on the left wing through the top of the slot firing a shot attempt to bring his team within two, 3-1.
  • Five minutes passed when Liam McLinsky tallied a power play goal making it a 3-2 game as the teams headed into the third period.
  • Late in the third goals two minutes apart off the shot of Cassaro and Kobe Walker iced the duel.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Freshman Mack Oliphant notched his second assist over his last three games.
  • McLinskey produced his team-leading fourth goal of the campaign.
  • RIT was 3-for-4 on the power play in the contest.
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will be back in action tomorrow to wrap up their away series with RIT with puck drop set for 4:05 p.m.
