LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team tied Syracuse 3-3 in their final game of the Ice Breaker Tournament. The Crusaders move to 2-5-1 on the year and remain 1-3-0 in Hockey East standings while the Orange move to 1-7-1 (0-0-0 CHA). 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Syracuse found the back of the net on the power play two minutes into the game. They extended the lead at 5:49 with a goal from Madison Primeau.
• Senior forward Mary Edmonds cut the lead in half with a goal at 14:07 in the first period. She was assisted by senior forward Darci Johal and freshman defender Casey Borgiel.
• The Crusaders received a power play opportunity in the second period and junior forward Bryn Saarela took advantage. With a swift move to fake the Syracuse defender, she landed a shot in the back of the net at 14:12. She was assisted by junior forward Lilly Feeney and Borgiel.  
• The Orange responded within ten seconds to re-take the lead at 14:19 of the second period.
• Syracuse had a 5-on-4 advantage after junior forward Millie Sirum drew a penalty for a hit from behind. After a successful penalty kill, Sirum left the box and received a pass from junior Vaia Graves at center ice. Sirum tied the game with a breakaway goal at 12:54 and the score stayed the same for the remainder of regulation.
• The game moved into a five-minute overtime and remained scoreless.
• In order to determine the third-place finisher at the Ice Breaker Tournament, the teams entered a shootout. After three chances, the Crusaders were unable to convert, while Syracuse managed one goal, finishing third in the IBT.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

• Edmonds' goal marks her third of the season, tying freshman Alexia Moreau for most goals on the year.
• Saarela's goal was her first of the season bringing her point total to four. She leads the team in total points alongside Edmonds and Johal.
• Borgiel set a new single-game career high with two assists. She joins Saarela and Johal as the team's assist leaders. 
• Feeney and Graves each tallied their first point of the year with their respective assists. 
• Freshman goaltender Brooke Loranger posted 26 saves on the night adding to her season total of 98. After four starts, she averages 2.48 goals-against with a save percentage of .916. 

UP NEXT: 

• Holy Cross returns to action Oct. 28 and 29 when they compete in a weekend series against Hockey East opponent New Hampshire. Friday's matchup will a home game for the Crusaders beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the teams will travel to Durham N.H. for a 2 p.m. puck drop.
