The Holy Cross men's soccer team will head south this weekend to play at American on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 1:00 p.m.
Things to Know About the Crusaders (4-7-2, 0-4-1 Patriot League):
• Holy Cross has an overall record of 4-7-2 on the season, with an 0-4-1 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders are coming off a narrow 2-1 loss to Loyola (Md.) last Saturday.
• Senior midfielder
Bergin Kranz has been one of the team's top offensive threats in recent weeks, scoring three goals in the last six games. In last Saturday's game with Loyola, he scored Holy Cross' only goal with an unassisted tally. Kranz previously had the game-winning goal against Northeastern and also scored in the game at Lehigh. On the year, he is tied for fourth on the team in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist. In his collegiate career, Kranz has totaled six goals and one assist for 13 points in 30 games played.
• Senior midfielder
Jack Ostrosky is currently tied for the team lead with four goals scored this season. During the contest at Lehigh, he scored with less than five minutes remaining to tie up the game at 2-2. Ostrosky previously netted a goal against Hartford, while scoring twice in the victory over Iona. Over the course of his collegiate career, he now has eight goals and five assists for 21 points in 47 games played.
• Sophomore forward
Evan Jones is once again among the offensive leaders for Holy Cross this fall, and paces the team in scoring with nine points on four goals and one assist. During the Army game, he netted the Crusaders' first goal of the day. Jones previously scored three goals in the win at UMass Lowell, becoming the first Holy Cross player to record a hat trick since 2013. In 32 career games played, he has now totaled 12 goals and seven assists for 31 points.
• Senior midfielder
Matt McGonigle scored his first goal of the season during the victory over UMass Lowell, then netted the game-winning goal against Hartford. On the year, is tied for fourth on the team in scoring with two goals and three assists for seven points. McGonigle has now totaled 21 points on six goals and nine assists in 43 career games played.
• McGonigle, Ostrosky and senior defender
Taj Salawu are serving as the Crusaders' captains this season.
Scouting the Eagles (5-3-4, 3-1-1 Patriot League):
• American owns an overall mark of 5-3-4 on the year, and is tied for first place in the Patriot League with a 3-1-1 record in conference play. The Eagles are coming off a 2-2 tie with James Madison on Tuesday.
• Junior forward Robbie Matei currently leads the team in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Dominic Dominguez has started the last three games for American, and owns a 1.02 goals against average with 20 saves this season.
Series History:
• American holds an 11-8-3 lead in the all-time series with Holy Cross.
• The Crusaders and the Eagles last played on Sept. 18, 2021, when Holy Cross posted a 2-1 victory in Worcester.
Evan Jones and
Ivor Teagle both scored goals in the win, while
Jake Williams tallied a pair of assists.
