Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's hockey falls to Sacred Heart

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to conference opponent Sacred Heart in their home opener. The Pioneers emerged with the 3-2 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sacred Heart's Marcus Joughin scored the first goal of the game at 5:12 of the first period with assists from Hunter Sansbury and Blake Humphrey.
  • Neil Shea then scored for the Pioneers on the power play at 11:44 of the first period from John Jaworski and Joughin.
  • Todd Goehring secured the final Sacred Heart goal of the evening at 18:54 of the second period from Conner Hutchinson and Sansbury.
  • The Crusaders began a comeback when junior forward Matt Guerra scored a goal 3:05 into the third with an assist from freshman forward Matt DeBoer.
  • Holy Cross pulled sophomore goaltender Thomas Gale off the ice for a man-up opportunity where DeBoer was able to capitalize at 18:12 of the third with assists from junior forward Jack Ricketts and junior forward Alec Cicero.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • DeBoer earned both the first assist and the first goal of his collegiate career in the contest.
  • Gale made 19 saves in the contest compared to Sacred Heart's 16.
  • The Pioneers held the 38-29 edge in faceoff wins.
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will return to action tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 14 the Hart Center Rink for a 7:02 p.m. puck drop.
