WORCESTER, MASS. – The Holy Cross women's hockey team staged a furious comeback Friday evening that fell just short, falling to Boston University 4-3 at the Hart Center Rink.
The Crusaders (3-21-0, 1-18-0 HE), down 4-0 at the 10:02 mark of the third, scored three goals over the final 10 minutes of action to climb back within one of the visiting Terriers (10-9-4, 9-6-3 HE).
Lilly Feeney, Mille Sirum, and
Bryn Saarela all lit the lamp for Holy Cross.
The deficit was just too much to overcome, as the second of BU's Kylie Roberts' two goals proved to be the game winner.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Terries scored one goal in each of the first two periods to take a 2-0 lead into the final frame.
- BU tacked on two more during the third to open up a 4-0 lead with just under ten minutes remaining.
- Feeney got the Crusaders on the board at 13:43 with her first goal of the season. Darci Johal and Mary Edmonds assisted on the play.
- Sirum cut the deficit to two with some help from Saarela and Emilie Fortunato, beating the BU goalie from the low slot.
- Saarela made it a one-goal game with 26 seconds remaining after Carlie Magier fought hard for a faceoff win, which led to Saarela beating the goalie in the top right corner.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Jada Brenon made 38 saves in goal for the Crusaders.
- Johal, Magier, and Sirum are now all tied atop the team with nine points on the season.
