WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team came up just short against the University of Connecticut, falling 2-1 on Sunday, Jan. 30 at the Hart Center Rink.
Sophomore left wing
Millie Sirum scored the lone goal of the day for the Crusaders (3-22, 1-19 Hockey East). Senior goaltender
Jada Brenon made 29 saves on the afternoon.
UConn goaltender Megan Warrener also had 29 saves to lead the Huskies (20-6-2, 14-5-2 Hockey East). Viki Harkness tallied two assists for UConn.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Following a scoreless first period, UConn got on the board first with a goal from Jada Habisch just 1:26 into the second. At 9:55 of the frame, Morgan Wabick extended the Huskies' lead to 2-0.
- Sirum scored after a faceoff win from senior captain Carlie Magier, bringing Holy Cross within 2-1 with 2:23 left in the second period.
- The Crusaders outshot UConn 14-6 in the third period, but were unable to knot things up.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- With Magier's assist on Sirum's goal, both Sirum and Magier have each recorded a point in three consecutive games.
UP NEXT:
- Holy Cross will host Providence for an evening matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
- Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Hart Center Rink.
