ORONO, Maine – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team fell to Maine, 2-1, in Hockey East action on Monday, Jan. 10.
In the Crusaders' first game in a month, senior captain
Carlie Magier scored the opening tally for Holy Cross (3-15-0, 1-12-0 Hockey East). Senior goaltender
Jada Brenon made 44 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- During a Holy Cross power-play opportunity early, junior right wing Darci Johal dished a feed across the slot to Magier, who one-timed it home for a 1-0 Holy Cross advantage at 4:09 of the first.
- Maine (7-13-1, 5-8-1 Hockey East) tied up the game at 15:55 of the second period off a goal from Maddie Giordano.
- Ida Kuoppala gave the Black Bears a 2-1 edge at 7:17 of the third period.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Brenon's 44 saves were a season high.
- With assists on Magier's goal, Johal and sophomore defenseman Vaia Graves both tallied their first assists of the season.
- Johal and Magier are now tied with junior Mary Edmonds for the team lead in points, with seven.
