SMITHFIELD, R.I.— The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Bryant, 3-1, and Brown, 3-0, on the final day of the Bryant Invitational.
Holy Cross now sits at 1-6 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bryant started with the hot hand and jumped out to a 13-6 lead. The Crusaders weren't able to overcome the early deficit and the Bulldogs took set one, 25-17.
- Set two was much of the same from set one. The Bulldogs used a six-point run in the middle to take a 16-6 lead. Bryant took a 2-0 lead after finishing out the set, 25-10.
- The Crusaders held strong in a back-and-forth third set. The score knotted up at 10-10 and then 20-20 before Holy Cross took control and claimed the 25-21 victory to push the match score to 2-1 still in favor of the Bulldogs.
- Bryant used two five-point runs, first to open the set 5-0 and then late in the set to push the score to 23-11. The Bulldogs closed out the final set, 25-13, and claimed a 3-1 match victory.
- Against Brown, the Bears used a 10-point unanswered run in the first set to claim a 25-13 victory.
- The second set was tight from the start, with the score evening out at 11-11. Brown then used a few bursts to eventually claim the 25-16 victory. Brown then claimed the final set 25-17 for the 3-0 victory.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- Through both games, junior Gracyn Benck led all Crusaders with 13 kills.
- Sophomore Halle Carter posted 30 assists against Bryant and 17 against Brown. Carter has posted double-digit assists in every match this season.
- Freshman Lauren Halverson led all players with four blocks against Brown.

- Holy Cross will return to Blaney Gymnasium on Wednesday, Sept. 8 to host New Hampshire at 7:30 p.m.
