Holy Cross falls to Boston College, 3-0

SMITHFIELD, R.I.— On the opening day of the Bryant Invitational, the Holy Cross volleyball team was swept, 3-0, by the Boston College Eagles. The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 1-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Holy Cross leapt out to a 7-5 lead early in the first set, before BC used a five-point run to claim a 10-7 lead. The Eagles never looked back and took set one, 25-15.
  • In set two, the Crusaders once again had an early 9-7 lead. Set two would prove to be much closer throughout, but BC slowly chipped away and claimed the 25-22 set win.
  • Boston College, claimed an early 10-5 lead in the final set that proved too much for the Crusaders to overcome. BC closed out the set with a 25-19 victory to claim the 3-0 sweep.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Junior Gracyn Benck led all players with 12 kills, with freshman Abbie Lane right behind her with 11 kills of her own.
  • Junior Halle Carter posted 24 assists, and has now posted over 20 assists in every match this season.
UP NEXT:
  • On Saturday, Sept. 4, Holy Cross will face tournament host Bryant at 1 p.m. and will then take on the Brown Bears at 4 p.m. to close out the Bryant Invitational.
