Volleyball can’t get past Loyola

TOWSON, Md.— The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds, 3-0, on Saturday night at Towson's SECU Arena.

Senior Skye Daval-Santos led the Crusaders (1-13, 0-3 PL) with 20 digs, while freshman Abbie Lane posted a team-high seven kills. Loyola's (11-3, 3-0 PL) Abby Hamilton led all players with 19 kills, Kacy Sekunda tallied 34 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first set opened up with four lead changes between the two squads, before Loyola used a four-point run to take a 13-8 lead. The Greyhounds would close out the set on a five-point streak, 25-13.
  • With a 1-0 the Greyhounds used their momentum to take set two, 25-9.
  • Daval-Santos posted 11 of her 20 digs in set three, while junior Halle Carter posted 10 of her 17 assists. Lane also tallied five of her seven kills in set three. The third set saw the Crusaders go on a five-point run to take an 11-7 lead in the middle of the set. Holy Cross built its lead all the way to 18-13, before the Greyhounds rallied back to tie the match at 19-19. Loyola closed out the set, 25-23, and 3-0 overall.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Daval-Santos posted her fifth match of the season with 20 or more digs.
  • Sophomore Sanaea Simmon's six kills, marked her third best output of the season.
  • Freshmen Mia Hofacker and Lauren Halverson each hit .500 on eight attempts apiece, to lead the Crusaders.
