WORCESTER, Mass.— The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to the Bucknell Bison, 3-1, to open Patriot League play on Saturday night in Blaney Gymnasium.
The Crusaders now sit at 1-11 on the season and 0-1 in Patriot League play, while the Bison improve to 5-6 and 1-1 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders came out firing in the first set, quickly separating to take a 10-5 lead early. Emma VanSeveren then held serve for five points to push the Crusaders to a 25-16 victory to take a 1-0 lead.
- The second set was back-and-forth early with the score knotting up at 10-10. The Bison then went on a four-point run to take a 19-14 lead and eventually claimed the 25-20 set victory to even the match at 1-1. The third set went just like the second and Bucknell took the 25-20 set victory to take a 2-1 match lead.
- In the final set, Bucknell led 9-2 from the jump and the Crusaders were never able to recover. The Bison claimed the set 25-15 and took the match 3-1 overall.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- Sanaea Simmons led all Holy Cross players with 10 kills. Simmons' 10 kills were a career-high and the first time she has ever reached double-digit kills.
- Skye Daval-Santos led all players with three service aces, and led all Crusaders with 15 digs.
- Halle Carter posted a double-double with 13 digs and 27 assists. The double-double was Carter's second straight and fourth of the season.
