The Holy Cross men's soccer team returns home this Saturday, Sept. 18, when it plays host to American in its Patriot League opener at 12:00 p.m.
Things to Know About the Crusaders (3-1-2, 0-0-0 Patriot League):
• Holy Cross stands 3-1-2 so far this season with wins over Manhattan, Sacred Heart and UMass Lowell. The Crusaders are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss at Boston College on Tuesday night.
• Senior midfielder
Max Krause is now in his fifth year with the Crusaders, after earning first team All-Patriot League honors in the spring of 2021. He currently leads the team lead in scoring with eight points on two goals and four assists. Over the course of his collegiate career, Krause has played in 57 games with 45 starts, recording 11 goals and 17 assists for 39 points. His 17 career assists are the second-most in program history, just one shy of the school record (18, Wayne Mullin, 1985-1988).
• Freshman forward
Evan Jones ranks second on the team in scoring with seven points on two goals and three assists. During the Boston College game, he scored his second goal of the season in the 80th minute to tie the score at 1-1. Jones' seven points on the year are currently the most of any freshman in the Patriot League.
• Junior midfielder
Jack Ostrosky is tied for the team lead with two goals scored this season. Both of his goals this year have been game winners, coming against Manhattan and UMass Lowell. During his career with the Crusaders, Ostrosky has now totaled four goals and three assists for 11 points in 22 games played.
• Junior
Jimmy Joyce has started all six of Holy Cross' games in goal this season, posting a 3-1-2 record with 20 saves and a 1.08 goals against average. He recently a streak of 309 consecutive minutes played without allowing a goal from Sept. 1-11, including shutouts against both Sacred Heart and UMass Lowell. Joyce also set a new career high with six saves at Iona.
• Krause, junior midfielder
Matt McGonigle and junior defender
Taj Salawu are serving as the Crusaders' captains this season.
Scouting the Eagles (1-2-2, 0-0-0 Patriot League):
• American stands 1-2-2 overall this season and has tied its last two games against Longwood (3-3) and Delaware (1-1).
• Senior forward David Coly leads the team in scoring with six points on two goals and two assists so far this year.
• Sophomore Lorenzo Gordon has started all five of the Eagles' games in goal, posting a 1.65 goals against average with 23 saves.
Series History:
• American holds an 11-7-3 lead in the all-time series with Holy Cross, including eight straight victories.
• The Crusaders and the Eagles last played on Oct. 6, 2019, when American posted a 1-0 overtime win in Worcester.
