KINGSTON, R.I.— The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Quinnipiac and Bryant on day one of the Art Carmichael Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island in Keaney Gymnasium.
The Crusaders dropped a five-set match to Quinnipiac, 3-2, and lost to Bryant, 3-1. Holy Cross is now 0-2 on the season.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first match of the day against Quinnipiac, Holy Cross was down 8-3 early in the first set before clawing back and tying the match at 23-23. The Bobcats ultimately ended the set on a 3-0 scoring run to win 27-25.
- Quinnipiac took set two by a 25-18 margin. Holy Cross then rattled off two set wins in the third and fourth sets, 25-22 and 25-23, respectively.
- The decisive fifth set was tied up at 10-10 until the Bobcats went on a four point run to ultimately win 15-11 and 3-2 overall.
- In match two against Bryant, the Crusaders came out strong and held a 16-6 lead before finishing off the Bulldogs, 25-17, to take set one. The script flipped in set two with Bryant coming out on top, 25-17, over the Crusaders to tie the match at 1-1.
- Bryant then rattled off two 25-14 victories in sets three and four to win the match, 3-1.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- In game one against Quinnipiac, freshman Abbie Lane posted the first double-double of her Holy Cross career with 17 kills and 14 digs.
- Against Quinnipiac, freshman Lauren Halverson led all players with nine blocks.
- Junior Halle Carter tallied 46 assists against Quinnipiac, the best mark of her Crusader career. Carter also posted 30 assists against Bryant.
- Senior Courtney Rasic set a career-high with 11 digs against the Bobcats.
- Senior Skye Daval-Santos tied a career-high against Quinnipiac with 21 digs.
- Against Bryant, junior Peyton Dewers tallied a career-high 12 kills to tie to lead all players.
- Freshman Mia Hofacker tied to lead all players with five blocks against Bryant.
