Softball wraps regular season with four against Army

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team will play its final series of the season this weekend against Army West Point. The Crusaders will travel to West Point for a doubleheader on Saturday, May 8, before returning home for two games on Sunday, May 9.

The games can be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Things to Know About the Crusaders (6-18, 2-14 PL):
  • Bella Jankowski continued her breakthrough senior year last weekend as she got a hit in three of the team's four games. She also had one RBI, was hit by a pitch, and stole two bases. Her .315 batting average on the year is a career high and leads the team.
  • In the circle, Megan Yurchick appeared in all four games last weekend, starting twice and coming on in relief in the other two. She pitched a total of 18 innings, posting a 3.11 ERA in the process. The freshman struck out nine batters, including when she tied a career high of five over three innings in a relief appearance against Lehigh where she allowed zero earned runs and just three hits.
  • The Holy Cross defense turned three double plays last weekend, giving them 13 on the season, good for the fourth most in a season in program history. The top mark of 16 was set in 2010. The Crusaders' .54 double plays per game is sixth in the nation.
Things to Know About the Black Knights (14-13, 10-8 PL):
  • Army is coming off a 2-0 weekend against Lafayette. The Black Knights defeated the Leopards 9-0 and 4-1.
  • The Black Knights are hitting .267 as a team on the year with Angelina Bebek being the only player on the roster to play in and start all 27 games. She has a .341 average with eight doubles and three home runs. Kayla Edwards' .359 average leads the team, but she has only played in 15 games, starting 11.
  • Jolie Duong leads the team in the circle with a 2.35 ERA and a .244 opponent batting average. Alicyn Grete's 90 strikeouts over 76.1 innings leads Army.
Last Time They Met:
  • The Crusaders and Black Knights last faced off in 2019 in a tightly-contested, three-game series. Holy Cross won one of the games, 2-0, but lost the other two, 1-0 and 2-1.
  • In the victory, then-freshman Kelly Nelson threw her first collegiate no-hitter, striking out five Black Knights in the process. Erin Bengston had an RBI in the game and Bailey Chavez scored a run.
