WORCESTER, Mass. — Senior first baseman 
Andrew Selima delivered a walkoff single in a 10-inning Game 1 victory before hitting a grand slam in a Game 2 slugfest as the Holy Cross baseball team split a weekend-opening doubleheader against Army West Point on Saturday, May 1.
In the opening game, the Crusaders (9-14, 8-10 Patriot League) erased a 3-1 deficit and scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning; no more runs came across until the bottom of the 10th inning, when Selima hit a single to score junior catcher 
Angelo D'Acunto.
Game 2 featured four home runs between the two teams, including the grand slam from Selima and senior left fielder 
Evan Blum's first career homer, but the Crusaders could not hold off a massive rally from the Black Knights (18-18, 12-8 Patriot League), falling 17-14 in 10 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
	- Army drove across its first run of the game on a bases-loaded groundout in the top of the first.
 
	- Freshman second baseman Sam Kirkpatrick hit a solo home run over the left field wall to even things up in the bottom of the third.
 
	- The Black Knights took a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
 
	- In the bottom of the sixth, Holy Cross loaded the bases after Blum and D'Acunto singled and Selima beat out a bunt attempt. Freshman right fielder Jake McElroy had a single up the middle to score Blum, and D'Acunto later scored on a double play.
 
	- Holy Cross loaded up the bases in the bottom of the seventh on three straight walks, but could not drive in any runs.
 
	- D'Acunto hit a double to lead off the 10th inning, and scored after Selima singled to center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
	- Holy Cross posted a five-run first inning, with an RBI double from Blum, a two-run double from D'Acunto, an RBI triple by McElroy and an RBI single from junior designated hitter Nate Wolf.
 
	- Army scored an unearned run in the top of the second.
 
	- Selima opened up the Holy Cross lead to 9-1 in the second with a grand slam to right field; McElroy scored another run in the frame to make it 10-1 after a fielding error.
 
	- A two-run homer brought Army within 10-3 in the third.
 
	- Blum responded in the bottom of the third with a solo homer to right.
 
	- Army used a five-run fourth inning to cut within 11-8.
 
	- That score held until the seventh, when D'Acunto had a single to center, scoring freshman third baseman Thomas Latham.
 
	- Army got another run back on a bases-loaded walk in the eighth; an RBI groundout pushed Holy Cross' lead back to four, 13-9, in the bottom half of the frame.
 
	- Army notched four runs in the top of the ninth to tie things up; in the top of the 10th, they tacked on another four runs to take a 17-13 lead.
 
	- Sophomore center fielder Ben Dellacono scored after an error, but Holy Cross could rally no further in the bottom of the 10th.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
	- Selima's grand slam was the first by a Crusader since the 2016 season; it also marked Selima's first career homer at Fitton Field.
 
DUE UP: 
	- Holy Cross will close out the weekend series against Army with a doubleheader on Sunday, May 2.
 
	- First pitch at Fitton Field is set for noon.
