Baseball falls to Boston College

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Holy Cross baseball team fell to Boston College, 13-2, on Tuesday, April 27.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a bases-loaded walk.
  • In the top of the second, freshman right fielder Jake McElroy and sophomore center fielder Ben Dellacono had back-to-back two-out singles; freshman third baseman Thomas Latham brought home McElroy with a single up the middle to even things up at 1-1.
  • Boston College scored on an error to take a one-run lead in the third; the Eagles capitalized with an RBI triple after a lost ball in the sun to add another run and take a 3-1 lead.  
  • Three more runs came across for the Eagles in the fourth inning before they added four more in the fifth to take a 10-1 lead.
  • A three-run home run made it a 13-1 game in the bottom of the sixth.
  • After Latham hit a one-out single in the seventh, senior shortstop Cam Meyer ripped a triple down the right-field line to tack on another run for the Crusaders.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • After not having recorded a triple in his collegiate career prior to April 24, Meyer now has three triples in his last five games.
  • Freshman catcher Michael Donahoe recorded a pinch-hit single in his first collegiate at-bat in the ninth inning.
DUE UP:
  • The Crusaders will play a weekend series against Army West Point on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2.
