Men’s lacrosse falls at No. 5 Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y.— The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell, 15-6, to the No. 5 Syracuse Orange on Saturday, March 20 in the Carrier Dome.

Junior goalie A.J. Fox led the way defensively for Holy Cross (1-3, 0-2 Patriot League), posting a career-high 18 saves. Junior Chris Conlin led the team with three caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Junior Will Spangenberg had a season-high two goals for the Crusaders. Freshman Will Vincent scored his first career goal, while sophomore classmates T.J. Lynch, Cameron Magalotti and Konrad Knaus chipped in the rest of the Crusaders' goals.

Chase Scanlan had seven goals to lead Syracuse (4-1, 1-0 ACC), while Owen Hiltz added in five assists and one goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Crusaders held the Orange scoreless for the first 13:58 of the game, before allowing the lone goal of the quarter at the 1:02 mark from Chase Scanlan. A.J. Fox made six saves in solid opening stanza, as the first period closed out with a 1-0 Syracuse lead.
  • Syracuse went on to score five goals in the second quarter and took a 6-0 lead into halftime.
  • Cameron Magalotti scored the first goal of the game for the Crusaders and T.J. Lynch tacked on another for Holy Cross. The Orange scored seven goals in the frame and took a 13-2 lead into the final quarter.
  • Holy Cross had its best offensive quarter in the fourth, with four goals. Will Spangenberg scored two in the quarter, while Konrad Knaus and Will Vincent each chipped in one. The Orange had two goals of their own and closed out the game with a 15-6 victory. 

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The Crusaders' defense held the Orange to just one goal in the first quarter, it's lowest scoring output in the first since February 23, 2020 against Army.
  • Dawson Friers and Liam Higgins saw their first action in goal this season in the fourth quarter.
  • Stuart Pollard's eight attempts at the 'x' (5-of-8) were a career-high.

  • Holy Cross will travel to face Navy on March 27 at 12:00 p.m in Annapolis, Md.
