The Holy Cross men's soccer team hits the road this weekend for a 2:00 p.m. game at Army West Point on Saturday, March 20.
Things to Know About the Crusaders (0-1, 0-1 PL):
• Holy Cross opened the season last Saturday, when it suffered a narrow 2-1 loss at Lafayette.
• Sophomore midfield
Matt McGonigle scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the game against the Leopards. He now has totaled four points on one goal and two assists in nine career games played.
• Sophomore goalkeeper
Jimmy Joyce was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, for competition from March 8-14. He made four saves at Lafayette in his collegiate debut last week.
• Senior midfielder
Max Krause led the team in scoring a year ago with 15 points on five goals and five assists. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has played in 49 games with 38 starts, totaling eight goals and 12 assists for 28 points.
• Krause, McGonigle and senior goalkeeper
Nick Conklu are serving as the Crusaders' captains this season.
Scouting the Black Knights (2-0, 0-0 PL):
• Army stands 2-0 so far this season, with both of those games being played last fall. The Black Knights own a pair of victories over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy by scores of 1-0 and 4-0.
• Junior midfielder Oscar Pereira has led the team in scoring with six points on two goals and two assists.
• Junior goalkeeper Jacob Suppiah owns a 2-0 record with a 0.00 goals against average on the year, but has not had to make any saves.
Series History:
• Army holds a narrow 17-16-5 lead in the all-time series between the schools, but the Crusaders stand 6-3-5 over the last 14 games.
• Holy Cross and Army last met on Oct. 20, 2019, with the Black Knights winning 6-1 at West Point behind a two-goal performance by Pereira.
