Men’s lacrosse falls to BU

WORCESTER, Mass.— The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to the Boston University Terriers, 16-6, on Saturday, March 12 at Kuzniewski Field.

The faceoff x was a bright spot for Holy Cross (1-2, 0-2 Patriot League), going 20-for-26 as a unit. Freshman Connor DePiero had the performance of his young career, going 14-for-15 overall with seven ground balls.

Sophomore classmates Konrad Knaus and Dean DiNanno, along with junior Classmates Will Spangenberg and Kilian Morrissey and freshman Tim O'Callaghan all got on the score sheet for the Crusaders. Knaus, who potted two goals, Morrissey and O'Callaghan all recorded their first goals in a Crusader uniform.

Defensively, junior Chris Conlin led the Crusaders with three caused turnovers, closely followed by senior Matthew Brush and junior Chase Maitland who each had two. Junior goalie A.J. Fox finished with 11 saves on the evening.

Timmy Ley led the Terriers (3-1, 1-1 Patriot League) with seven goals. Goalie Matt Garber posted 15 saves in his third win of season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Will Spangenberg scored the first goal of the game for either side, as the Crusaders took at early 1-0 lead at the 13:40 mark of the first quarter. The Terriers then went on an 11-goal scoring run to take an 11-1 lead into halftime.
  • Dean DiNanno, Konrad Knaus and Tim O'Callaghan each added a goal on in the third stanza, with the Terriers holding a 14-4 lead going into the final frame. 
  • Konrad Knaus and Kilian Morrissey closed out the scoring for the Crusaders as the Terriers took home a 16-6 victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Will Spangenberg extended his point-streak that has lasted his entire collegiate career.
  • The Crusaders scored their first man-up goal of the season from Konrad Knaus.
  • Holy Cross won the ground ball battle, 29-24.

UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will next face Army in West Point, New York on Saturday, March 20 at 2 p.m.
