BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to Sacred Heart, 2-1, on Friday, Feb. 19.
All of the game's scoring happened in the middle stanza. Holy Cross had a brief lead early in the frame, but Sacred Heart scored two quick goals to take the lead for good. Junior captain
Matt Slick notched the lone goal for the Crusaders off an assist by senior
Andrew Dumaresque.
Sophomore goaltender
Matt Radomsky made 34 saves for the Crusaders. Holy Cross went 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, with Radomsky stopping 10 Sacred Heart power-play shots.
SCORING SUMMARY:
1-0 HC (2
nd, 5:24, EV): After a scoreless first, Slick snapped a puck that trickled through the pads of Sacred Heart netminder Josh Benson to open the scoring.
1-1 SHU (2
nd, 6:50, EV): That lead would be short-lived, as just over a minute and a half later, Marc Johnstone evened things up.
2-1 SHU (9:16, EV): The Pioneers took the lead shortly thereafter off a tally from Emil Öhrvall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Slick's goal was his first of the season.
- Freshman Jake Higgins got six shots on goal, a collegiate best for him.
- Radomsky's 34 saves marked his second-highest total of the season.
