ROCHESTER, N.Y.— The Holy Cross men's hockey team fought back from a three-goal deficit but was ultimately edged by the RIT Tigers, 4-3, on Saturday night at the Gene Polisseni Center.
RIT (7-5-2, 5-3-2 AHA) opened the game against the Crusaders (2-10-1, 2-5-1 AHA) with three first period goals all within under four minutes. Before the first frame ended, junior
Mike Higgins scored his second goal in as many games on a delayed penalty. Junior
Nick Hale and sophomore
Matt Guerra had helpers on the goal.
Just under two minutes into the second period, junior
Grayson Constable netted his fifth goal of the season to cut the Crusader deficit to 3-2. Freshman
John Gelatt recorded his first assist of the game on the goal. The Tigers then scored shorthanded to close out the second period scoring, and take their lead to 4-2.
Senior
Ryan Leibold potted his fifth goal of the season on the power play to once again bring Holy Cross within one goal of the Tigers. Gelatt and Guerra each tallied their second assists of the day on the goal. The Crusaders were unable to find the equalizer in the final minutes of the game and RIT earned the weekend sweep against the Crusaders.
Senior
Erik Gordon finished with 13 saves and sophomore
Jack Robilotti had a team-high three blocks.
