Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Constable lifts Crusaders past Mercyhurst in OT

WORCESTER, Mass— Junior Grayson Constable scored the game winning goal just 24 seconds into overtime to send the Holy Cross men's hockey team past the Mercyhurst Lakers, 5-4, on Saturday evening at Hart Center Rink.

Five different players scored in the Holy Cross (2-8-1, 2-3-1 AHA) comeback effort, while sophomore Lucas Thorne, junior Nick Hale, senior Ryan Leibold and sophomore Matt Guerra all recorded multi-point efforts.

The opening stanza went by with neither side able to get on the board. Mercyhurst (2-4-4, 2-2-4 AHA) broke the deadlock in the second, but sophomore Alec Cicero potted his first goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1. The Lakers went on to score two unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead into the third period.

The Crusaders erupted for three goals in the third period, with Leibold starting things off with his lone tally of the night, taking the puck coast-to-coast to cut the Crusader deficit to 3-2. Mercyhurst then scored what would be its final goal to stretch its lead to 4-2.

Senior Matt Slick lit the lamp for the first time this season to bring the Crusaders within one again. With under 30 seconds left in the game, Thorne scored the game-tying goal on the power play. The Crusaders also had an extra attacker on the ice for the goal. The score sat at 4-4 to end regulation.

The game then went to overtime, where just 24 seconds in, Constable potted his fourth goal of the season with assists from Leibold and Hale to bring home the Crusader victory, 5-4.

The win marked the Crusaders first in overtime and their first win at home this season. Junior Matt Radomsky picked up his first win of the season and finished with 24 saves. The Crusaders out shot the Lakers, 43-28.
