BOSTON – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team couldn't hold off No. 6 Northeastern on Sunday, Oct. 24 at Matthews Arena, falling by a score of 3-1.
Senior goaltender
Jada Brenon broke the Holy Cross program record for career saves in a 41-save performance, bringing her career total to 2,417 – surpassing the nearly two-decade-old record of 2,393 saves, set by Jenelle DiSanto from 1999 to 2003.
Sophomore left wing
Millie Sirum scored the game-opening goal at 13:37 of the first period to give Holy Cross (1-7-0, 0-4-0 Hockey East) an early lead, but Northeastern (5-2-0, 4-2-0) evened things up early in the second. The game stayed knotted at a goal apiece – with Brenon coming up with a number of big stops – until the Huskies finally broke through midway through the third.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders capitalized on a Northeastern turnover, with Edmonds scooping up a mishandled puck and passing it to Sirum, who wristed it past Northeastern goaltender Aerin Frankel.
- Northeastern tied up the game after Maureen Murphy notched a power-play goal just one minute into the second period.
- The game remained tied until the 11:44 mark of the third period, with Katy Knoll knocking in the eventual game-winner.
- Murphy notched an empty netter with 1:13 left in regulation to put the game out of reach.
