BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team came up short in Hockey East action against Vermont, falling 4-2 to the Catamounts on Friday, Oct. 22 at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
After Vermont (3-2-0, 1-0-0 Hockey East) took a 3-0 lead in the second period, the Crusaders (1-6-0, 0-3-0 Hockey East) came storming back in the third, with sophomore left wing
Millie Sirum and junior right wing
Darci Johal each scoring a goal. However, the Catamounts added a late tally to seal the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Starting goaltender Jada Brenon stopped 12 first-period shots as the Crusaders and Catamounts skated to a scoreless first period.
- Vermont opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 03:18 of the second, and extended its lead to 3-0 after goals at 7:12 and 9:36 of the frame.
- Sirum got Holy Cross on the board at 3:23 of the third, scoring on a breakaway attempt.
- At 10:41 of the third period, Johal fired the puck in from the slot to bring Holy Cross within 3-2.
- Vermont added an insurance goal at 12:57 of the third to regain a 4-2 lead.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Johal's goal was the first of her career; Sirum's goal marked her first during the 2021-22 campaign.
