ERIE, Pa.— The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell at Mercyhurst, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic Hockey action at Mercyhurst Ice Center.
The Crusaders (0-3-1, 0-1-1) got on the scoreboard first, with sophomore
Tyler Ghirardosi's second goal of the season on the power play. Senior
Ryan Leibold had the helper. Merychurst (1-2-1, 1-0-1) then went on to score three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead in the third period.
Sophomore
Jack Ricketts scored his second goal in as many games, with assists from Ghirardosi and Leibold, to push the score to 3-2. Holy Cross then pulled its goaltender and allowed two empty net goals from the Lakers in the final minute to push the final score to 5-2.
Freshman goaltender
Thomas Gale got his first start in net and made 32 saves, with 20 coming in the second period. The Crusaders walked out of the two-game series with the Lakers with one Atlantic Hockey point after tying Mercyhurst in game one, 4-4.
