Holy Cross women's ice hockey head coach
Katie Lachapelle has been named the head coach of the 2022 U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team, USA Hockey announced on Thursday, Oct. 14.
The International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Women's World Championship will take place from Jan. 8 to 15 in Linköping and Mjölby, Sweden.
"We're excited for the upcoming world championship," Lachapelle said. "Our roster is filled with incredibly talented players from across the country and together we'll strive to bring the gold medal back to the U.S."
Team USA has won six of the last seven gold medals in the IIHF U18 Women's World Championship, including in 2020 when it beat Canada, 2-1, in overtime in the gold-medal game. Lachapelle had previously been named the U-18 team's head coach for the 2021 IIHF Women's World U18 Championship, which was canceled due to COVID-19.
Lachapelle additionally worked as an Olympic team camp coach and evaluator at the 2022 U.S. Olympics team tryout camp from June 1 to 7, 2021.
Throughout her career, Lachapelle has coached numerous league All-Stars, All-Americans, Patty Kazmaier finalists, national team members, and Olympians. Now in her third season as head coach and fifth season overall at Holy Cross, Lachapelle has helped guide the team's transition into Hockey East, one of the top conferences in Division I.
