WORCESTER, Mass.— Powered by junior
Halle Carter's double-double of 33 assists and 11 digs, the Holy Cross volleyball team downed the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 3-1. The victory marked the Crusaders' first conference victory of the season.
Carter posted 33 assists, 11 digs and eight kills during the match for the Crusaders (2-17, 1-7 PL). Freshman
Abbie Lane led all players with 13 kills and senior
Skye Daval-Santos led all players with 20 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In set one, there were six ties, but the Crusaders eventually grabbed control of the match, using a three-point run to separate themselves, 19-15. Holy Cross wrapped up the set with two straight points, to win 25-20.
- Holy Cross jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in set two, but Lehigh rallied back to take a 16-13 lead. Holy Cross finished the set on a four-point run to take set two by the same score as set one, 25-20.
- The third set did not go the Crusaders way after Lehigh took control of the set from the jump hitting .500 and winning 25-16 to cut the match deficit, 2-1.
- Once again in set four, the Crusaders got out to an early lead, 17-13. Lehigh would once again battle back and came within two, with the score at 19-17. Holy Cross eventually put the set away, 25-19, and won the match 3-1.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- Carter's eight kills were a season-high. Additionally, her double-double (33 assists, 11 digs) was her fifth of the season.
- The Crusaders now own a 2-3 record in Blaney Gymnasium on the season.
- Holy Cross had 10 aces on the day, tied for their second-most this season.
- Sophomore Sanaea Simmons posted a career-high three service aces.
