Women's basketball drops weekend finale at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Holy Cross women's basketball team fell to Lehigh, 83-62, on Sunday, Jan. 24.

Sophomore Addisyn Cross had 12 points to lead Holy Cross (4-4). Junior Avery LaBarbera and freshman Bronagh Power-Cassidy also finished in double figures with 11 points each. Junior Oluchi Ezemma had eight points and six rebounds.

Lehigh (6-2) was paced by Frannie Hottinger, who finished with 27 points. Mariah Sexe chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds, while Mary Clougherty scored 15 points with seven assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lehigh jumped out to an early 16-7 lead, prompting a Holy Cross timeout. The Mountain Hawks had another basket out of the timeout, but Power-Cassidy — who had seven of Holy Cross' first 11 points — hit a layup to briefly pause the Lehigh surge.
  • With the Mountain Hawks leading 24-13 after one quarter, freshman Cara McCormack hit a long two to open the second quarter, and Cross had a basket to make it a 24-17 game with 8:19 left in the second quarter.
  • Lehigh closed out the quarter on a 21-7 run to take a 45-24 advantage into halftime.
  • Holy Cross opened the second half scoring five of the first seven points, with a 3-pointer by LaBarbera and a jumper by Ezemma; Lehigh was able to push its lead as high as 24 points in the third quarter.
  • As Lehigh led 58-34 with 3:54 left in the third, Holy Cross used a quick 11-2 run to cut within 15. The Crusaders scored seven unanswered points with a three from LaBarbera and back-to-back baskets from Ezemma and Cross before Lehigh closed out the quarter with a pair of free throws.
  • The Crusaders cut as close as 12 points several times in the fourth quarter, including when Cross made it a 70-58 game with 4:30 remaining. The Mountain Hawks, however, were able to prevent any further Holy Cross comeback with a 13-4 run to end the game.
 BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Cross has reached double-figure points three times this season.
  • LaBarbera has scored in double figures in all but two games this season; she has hit double digits in each of the last four games.
 UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will begin a weekend series against Boston University on Saturday, Jan. 30 in Boston.
  • Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
