Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's hockey leads early, but falls to Army

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to Army 3-2 Thursday night at the Hart Center Rink. The Crusaders got out to a quick 2-0 lead, but weren't able to hold on for the win.

Playing in his first collegiate game, freshman Jack Rickets opening the scoring early in the first period. Anthony Vincent followed up eight minutes later with a power play goal to double Holy Cross' lead. But Army would get one back late in the first to go into the second down just one goal.

The Black Knights outshot the Crusaders in the second frame 19-3 and got one to go to tie the game. They added the game winner in the third to secure the come-from-behind victory.

SCORING SUMMARY:
1-0 HC (1st, 4:06, EV): Ferguson was able to back hand the puck out to Ricketts while pinned up to the wall and the freshman let a wrister fly from the right circle for his first collegiate tally.
2-0 HC (1st, 12:26, PP): On the man advantage, Alex Peterson put a shot on goal and Vincent was there to jam home the rebound.
2-1 AWP (1st, 15:40, EV): The Black Knights cut the lead in half late in the first.
2-2 AWP (2nd, 5:25, EV): Colin Bilek took advantage of a Crusader turnover and tied the game at two.
3-2 AWP (3rd, 6:13, SH): During a 4-on-4, Thomas Farrell deposited the game-winner from the left circle after a couple nice passes from John Keranen and Jake Felker.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Bryce Dolan blocked a game-high nine shots.
  • Erik Gordon made 32 saves in goal for the Crusaders.
  • Ryan Leibold led Holy Cross with two points as he assists on both of the team's goals.
UP NEXT:
The Crusaders will play host to the Black Knights again on Friday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m.
