Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's hockey loses close one at #20 AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team lost to No. 20 AIC 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the MassMutual Center. Erik Gordon made 30 saves, but the Crusaders just weren't able to find the back of the net.

In its first game in three and a half weeks, Holy Cross put up a good fight against one of the top teams in the conference in the Yellow Jackets. The Crusader defense didn't skip a beat, as it killed off all seven of the penalties it faced. The most impressive of which came in the third period when Holy Cross killed off two full minutes of a 5-on-3. The AIC power play unit came into the game with a 24.5% success rate, good for 16th in the nation and second in Atlantic Hockey.

The Yellow Jackets scored during a delayed penalty with just over a minute to play in the first period. From that point on, neither side would score again.

The Crusaders had a number of chances, but just weren't able to finish any off. Conner Jean, Pete Kessel, and Anthony Vincent led the team with three shots on goal. Matt Slick blocked three shots.

Transfer Jackson MacNab saw his first action as a Crusader. He registered one shot on goal.

Holy Cross will take on Army three times next week beginning with a 6 p.m. matchup on Thursday, Jan. 21 at the Hart Center.
