WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross has named Andrea Landry its head women's rowing coach, as announced by Director of Athletics Marcus Blossom. Landry joins the Crusaders after spending 10 years on the staff at the University of Massachusetts.
"I am excited to welcome Andrea Landry to Holy Cross as our new head women's rowing coach," said Blossom. "She will have a significant impact on the growth of our team. Andrea was very instrumental in the success of the women's rowing program at UMass as a student-athlete, assistant coach and acting head coach. I look forward to aiding her in providing our rowers with a great experience and supporting their overall development on and off the water."
From 2009-19, Landry helped UMass to three Atlantic 10 Championships, three Dad Vail Regatta women's titles and three NCAA Championship appearances. The Minutewomen never finished lower than third in the Atlantic 10 Championship during her 10 years on the staff.
"I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to lead the bright, strong and resilient group of young women that make up the women's rowing program at Holy Cross," said Landry. "I would like to thank Director of Athletics Marcus Blossom and Associate AD Steve Pizzi for welcoming me to the Holy Cross family. I am greatly looking forward to meeting the student-athletes and working to create a supportive and dynamic environment where success will follow. I will work to instill the College's mission to develop engaging, compassionate and respectful student-athletes on the team and within the community. It is especially exciting to come full circle by returning to Worcester County where I grew up. Lake Quinsigamond is where I first put an oar into the water and I am excited to return to such a vibrant rowing community."
Landry served as UMass' acting head coach in the spring and summer of 2019, leading the team to a third-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship. She was previously the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator from 2017-19 and was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 2014-17. Landry spent three years as an assistant coach from 2011-14, after beginning her time with the Minutewomen as a graduate assistant coach from 2009-11.
During the 2016-17 season, UMass won the Atlantic 10 Championship and advanced to the NCAA Championship. The Minutewomen cemented themselves as the top team in the Atlantic 10 when the varsity eight and varsity four took gold in their respective grand final races, while the second varsity eight earned silver. Under Landry's guidance, four student-athletes earned All-Atlantic 10 Conference honors following the 2017 conference championship.
In 2015-16, Landry helped UMass to the Dad Vail Regatta women's title. The Minutewomen also won gold in the second varsity eight at the Knecht Cup and participated in the prestigious Henley Regatta. Previously in 2014-15, UMass won both the Atlantic 10 Championship and the Dad Vail Regatta women's title, while making an appearance in the NCAA Championship.
During the 2013-14 campaign, she helped the Minutewomen to the Atlantic 10 Championship, a first-place finish at the Knecht Cup and an NCAA Championship appearance. Landry's walk-on novice eight finished second at the Dad Vail Regatta as UMass won the women's team title at the event.
In addition to her accomplishments at UMass, Landry served as an assistant men's and women's rowing coach at Amherst College in 2011, and has been a coach at the All-American Rowing Camp since 2013.
Landry rowed for UMass from 2005-09 as a member of the varsity eight, helping the Minutewomen win three Atlantic 10 Championships during her tenure. Including her four seasons as a student-athlete, she was part of six Atlantic 10 title teams.
A 2009 graduate of UMass with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, Landry went on to receive her master's degree in kinesiology from UMass in 2012.
Landry replaces Patrick Diggins, who retired in February after a 34-year career at Holy Cross.
