WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team lost their season opener, 3-2, in overtime Thursday night to Long Island. The Crusaders tied the game at two late in the third period before falling in the 3-on-3 overtime period.
Jake Pappalardo scored the game-tying goal with six minutes to go in the third period. The result would hold and sent the game to overtime. In the extra period, the Crusaders generated plenty of looks including four shots on goal, but weren't able to take advantage of a 4-on-3 power play. The Sharks scored the game-winner shortly after the end of the man advantage.
