Seven goals lifts men’s hockey past Mercyhurst, 7-2

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team finished off its weekend sweep of Mercyhurst with a dominating victory, 7-2. Neil Robinson led the way with four points while Matt Slick added two points and Logan Ferguson picked up three points, each recording career-highs.
 
The Crusaders opened the game in a commanding fashion, as Robinson scored just 23 seconds into the game. Holy Cross added to their lead in the first period with two more goals. With a 26-5 shot advantage in the first period, the Crusaders skated into the intermission with a 3-0 lead.
 
Holy Cross kept pressuring, scoring to go up 4-0 early in the second period before Mercyhurst found the back of the net at the seven-minute mark, 4-1. The Crusaders responded with a power play goal to take back the four-goal lead, 5-1. Through the opening 40 minutes, Matt Radomsky recorded 10 saves.
 
Robinson tallied his third goal of the game less than one minute into the final frame in similar fashion as his opening goal. Jack Surowiec found the back of the net nearly 13 minutes into the period to cap off the Crusader scoring at seven. In a flurry in front, Mercyhurst scored to close the game at 7-2.
 
Matt Radomsky played 57:42 minutes and made 20 saves before Beau Collins made his third appearance of the season to make one save in two minutes of action.

1-0 HC | 1st, 0:23, EV: Robinson fired a wrist shot from the left faceoff dot to the top right corner of the net.
2-0 HC | 1st, 6:23, EV: Nick Hale and Ryan Leibold worked to keep the puck in at the blue line and Pete Kessel tipped in Leibold's point shot.
3-0 HC | 1st, 19:50, EV: Matt Slick jumped into the rush with Logan Ferguson and Anthony Vincent. As Slick crashed into the high slot, Ferguson found him for a quick goal.
4-0 HC | 2nd, 2:42, EV: After an offensive zone faceoff win to Dalton Skelly on the blue line, Robinson tipped the puck in just inside the near post.
4-1 MER | 2nd, 07:09, EV: James Anderson connected on a rebound to score.
5-1 HC | 2nd, 12:42, PP: In settled offensive zone power play action, Ferguson took a low angle shot to the far corner of the net.
6-1 HC | 3rd, 00:57, EV: Robinson scored from the left faceoff dot with a quick wrist shot.
7-1 HC | 3rd, 12:53, EV: Surowiec chipped in Jake Pappalardo's rebound.
7-2 MER | 3rd, 18:11, EV: Georigio Fedulov scored for the Lakers.

NOTES & NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders earned their first home sweep since Oct. 20-21, 2017, when the swept Bentley.
  • Holy Cross reached the seven-goal mark for the first time since defeating AIC, 8-2, on Feb. 3, 2017.
  • Neil Robinson picked up his first career hat trick and is the first Crusader to do so since Michael Laffin (Dec. 30, 2017).
  • The Crusaders closed the weekend with another perfect night on the penalty kill, going 5-for-5.
  • Holy Cross outshot Mercyhurst, 46-23, including a 26-5 margin in the first period.
