Women's hockey opens 2020 in home-and-home with UConn

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's hockey team will open the 2020 portion of its schedule with the first of four straight home-and-home series when it travels to UConn on Friday, Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. and then hosts the Huskies on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 1:05 p.m.

The Crusaders and Huskies played each other in their first two games of 2019 as well. Both games were high-scoring affairs as the two teams combined for 16 goals in 4-3 and 6-3 UConn victories.

Talking Points
• At the halfway point in their season, the Crusaders have won three games, tripling their total from all of last year. 
• Senior Rachel Moore leads the team with eight points from two goals and six assists. She shares the team lead in assists with freshman Paige McArthur.
• Freshman Mary Edmonds has a team-high three goals on the year. 
• Sophomore goaltender Jada Brenon had been between the pipes for all three Holy Cross victories. She has posted career-best marks in both goals against average (3.27) and save percentage (.911) to this point.
• Over the final three weeks of the first half of the season, the Crusaders went 3-2 with three wins over Merrimack and two losses to Northeastern.
• In those five games, 10 different Crusader recorded at least a point, with McArthur leading the way with four, all from assists. Edmonds, Moore, freshman Sofia Smithson, and sophomores Emma Lange and Carlie Magier all have two points each over that span.
• Brenon started four of those games and made 125 saves for a .919 save percentage.

Scouting the Huskies
• Natalie Snodgrass leads UConn this year with 17 points from eight goals and nine assists. Catherine Crawley has a team high 11 assists to go with her four goals for 15 points.
• Morgan Fisher has a team-best .919 save percentage, but Samantha Carpentier-Yelle's 1.85 goals against average is tops amongst UConn netminders.  Fisher has started 12 games to Carpentier-Yelle's six.
• The Huskies have converted on 17.7% of their power plays, while killing 87% of their penalties.
• In the first meeting between the two teams this season, the Huskies used goals by Savannah Bouzide and Morgan Wabick to claim the 2-0 victory.
