ORONO, Maine – The Holy Cross women's hockey team tied Maine, 0-0, Saturday afternoon at Alfond Arena.
Jada Brenon made 40 saves in the draw for her second shutout of the season.
The Crusaders, who earned their first Hockey East tie of the year, were outshot in each of the first three periods, but Brenon and the defense held tough to keep Maine off the board. Holy Cross had a number of chances of its own, but couldn't get any in the back of the net.
The Black Bears outshot the Crusaders, 40-21, but Holy Cross held the 4-2 advantage in the overtime period.
Mary Edmonds sent a wrister in on net five minutes into the game, but Maine's Carly Jackson was there for the stop.
Paige McArthur followed up with a try of her own, but Jackson was there again.
In the second,
Darci Johal found herself on Jackson's doorstep and took a swipe at a hard pass from
Emma Lange, but the timing was just off.
In the third period and overtime Holy Cross had multiple quality looks, the best of which came with about twenty seconds left in the game.
Victoria Young sent in a shot from just inside the blue line and
Carlie Magier was there for the second chance opportunity. Her shot beat Jackson, but hit the post and sat there just outside the net. Magier wasn't able to get her stick down in time to push it home as the crowd collapsed around her.
In the Crusaders' two-year history in Hockey East, they now have two ties on their resume, both against Maine. Holy Cross tied the Black Bears, 2-2, last year at the Hart Center.
