WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated by Lafayette in 109 minutes of action on Sept. 28.  Jack Ostrosky recorded three points in the game and Bobby Hurstak made a career-high eight saves in the game. Despite the Crusaders erasing a 1-0 lead and taking their first lead of the 2019 season in the second half, the Leopards offense struck to force overtime and again in the final minute of the game.

In the 18th minute, Lafayette struck first from Ryan Goncalves. The remainder of the first half was quiet, as Hurstak picked up four saves and the Crusaders recorded five shots.

The Crusaders started the second half with Orstrosky's first collegiate goal, as the rookie was on the receiving end of a Max Krause cross. Orstrosky headed the ball just inside the far post to even the game, 1-1.

Just over 10 minutes later, Dylan Scanley scored his first of the season as Ostrosky picked up his first collegiate assist on the play. From the midfiled, Ostrosky sent a through-ball to Scanley, who slipped the ball past Lafayette's keeper.

In the 76th minute, Adam Bramsom scored for the Leopards to even the game and push the game to overtime.

Hurstak made four saves in overtime, but in the final minute of play, James Gibson took advantage of a flurry in front of the goal to notch the game-winner.

Koolman on the Game:

“Today was Patriot League soccer at its best. I thought we came out the second half very strong and we didn't maintain that type of intensity. That's what makes the game of soccer so cruel, you leave it all out on the field and unfortunately you fall short in the end.”

Notes & Numbers

  • Lafayette held the advantage in shots, 30-12.
