BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team defeated Boston College, 6-0, Tuesday evening in Brighton. It is the first Crusader victory over the Eagles since 1996.

Alexandra Held was sharp in the circle as she shutout Boston College going the full seven innings, striking out nine, and giving up just three hits and two walks.

Taylor Wahler had an outstanding day going 4-for-4 with a run, three RBI, and a double. Jackie Brewster was 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. Bailey Chavez had a hit, two runs, and a walk, and Erin Bengston doubled and had two RBI.

Third Inning:

  • With two outs, Nagel reached base on an error and Chavez made her way to third.
  • Wahler singled in the next at bat to bring Chavez home.
  • Bengston would double to right center to push both Nagel and Wahler across.

Fourth:

  • Behrens was hit by a pitch and Held and Brewster both walked to load the bases with one out.
  • Chavez walked to bring a run home and Wahler got her third hit of the game to plate two more and take a 6-0 lead.

Fifth:

  • With a runner on second and two outs, Held struck out the final batter to get out of the jam.

Sixth:

  • This time, with a runner on third, Held got a pop out to third two keep the Eagles off the board.

Seventh:

  • For the fourth inning in a row, with a runner in scoring position, Held recorded the third out without letting a run across. She ended the game with her ninth strikeout.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Held's nine strikeouts today set a new career-high for strikeouts in a season with 94. She set her old career-high of 85 last year as a junior.
  • Bengston's double was her 13th of the season, two short of tying the program record for doubles in a season. She now has nine two-baggers in the last nine games.
  • Wahler extended her hitting streak to 10 games.

Holy Cross will take on Boston College again tomorrow, this time at home, at 5 p.m.
