Softball falls to Army West Point in season finale

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team fell to Army West Point in its season finale at Freshman Field on Sunday May 3. The Black Knights claimed an 11-1 run-rule victory in five innings to sweep the season series.

Sunday's contest marked the final game for seniors Jenna Alesandrelli, Brooke Ventrelle, Anna Brait, Sophia Roncone, Morgan Kane, and Ali Sniegocki. 


Roncone concludes her illustrious Crusader career third all-time in program history for strikeouts (406), tied third in shutouts (7), and sixth in complete games (40).


Sniegocki and Brait both surpassed 150 career hits in their final season on the Hill, becoming just the tenth and eleventh players, respectively, to do so. Sniegocki finished her career tied for sixth all-time with 160 hits, while Brait ranks tied for ninth with 151.


The pair also cracked the top ten in career doubles, with Sniegocki tied for second all-time with 38 and Brait sitting sixth with 34. Sniegocki additionally ranks second in program history in career home runs with 18.

AT THE PLATE: HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Black Knights took a commanding  8-0 lead in the top of the first inning that was highlighted by a three-run home run by Caitlyn Newburn.
  • Brait drove in sophomore Kate Trudgen with an RBI fielder's choice up the middle in the bottom half of the first, cutting the deficit to 8-1.
  • Army added two more runs in the top of the third, increasing their lead to 10-1.
  • The Black Knights scratched across another run in the top of the fourth, drawing  a throw down to second on a fake stolen base attempt to make it 11-1.
