WORCESTER, Mass. –  The Holy Cross softball team fell in both games of its weekend doubleheader against Army West Point on Saturday, May 2 at Freshman Field. The Back Knights secured five-inning run-rule victories in both games, winning game one 15-1 and game two 9-0.

GAME ONE: HOLY CROSS 1, ARMY WEST POINT 15 (FINAL/5)

STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:

• Holy Cross: Sophia Roncone (L, 4-15), 1.0+ innings pitched, four hits allowed, eight runs (eight earned), six walks
• Army West Point: Katelyn Flanders (W, 8-7), 5.0 innings pitched, six hits allowed, one run (earned), seven strikeouts, two HBP

IN RELIEF: 

• Holy Cross: Avery Toddings, 3.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, six runs (six earned), strikeout, four walks
• Maya Gallagher, 1.0 inning pitched, one hit allowed, one run (earned), HBP

AT THE PLATE:

• Silje Emery: 1-for-2
• Ali Sniegocki: 2-for-3
• Jenna Alesandrelli: 1-for-3, RBI
• Emily McCandless: 1-for-2, HBP
• Anna Brait: 1-for-2, double
• Tayten Moore: 1-for-2, grand ball, five RBI, run
• Ashton White: 2-for-3, home run, walk four RBI, three runs

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Army West Point grabbed an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a Tayten Moore grand slam to left field.
• Ashton White plated two more runners in the top of second with a single up the middle, extending the Black Knights lead to 6-0.
• Army tacked on two more runs in the second, taking an 8-0 advantage.
• The Black Knights scored six additional runs in the top of the fourth, increasing their lead to 14-0.
• A sacrifice fly from Mia Bonsignore extended Army's lead to 15-0 in the top of the fifth.
• Senior Jenna Alesandrelli broke the shutout for Holy Cross with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

GAME TWO: HOLY CROSS 0, ARMY WEST POINT 9 (FINAL/5)

STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:

• Holy Cross: Bridget Mulkeen (L, 5-9), 3.1 innings pitched, six hits allowed, eight runs (four earned), strikeout, four walks, HBP, wild pitch
• Army West Point: Amanda Eaglin (W, 12-8), 5.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, no runs, six strikeouts, two walks, HBP

IN RELIEF: 

• Holy Cross: Avery Toddings, 1.2 innings pitched, one hit allowed, one run (earned), walk

AT THE PLATE:

• Kate Trudgen: 0-for-1, walk
• Anna Brait: 1-for-2
• Samantha Sims: 2-for-3, home run, four RBI, two runs

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Army scratched across the first run of the game in the top of the second inning.
• The Black Knights added five more runs in the top of the third, increasing the lead to 6-0.
• Army's Samanatha Sims hit a three-run home run to right field in the top of the fourth inning, giving the Black Knights a 9-0 lead.

• Holy Cross closes out the season and the series with Army West Point on Sunday, May 3. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
