WEST POINT, New York – The Holy Cross baseball team snapped a five-game winning streak, falling 8-5 at Army West Point in Patriot League action on Wednesday, April 17.

STAT LEADERS:

L: Luke Dawson (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Army took an early 3-0 lead after a first-inning three-run homer by Trey Martin.
  • Holy Cross battled back with a four-run third inning. Sophomore designated hitter Evan Blum scored on an error for the Crusaders' first run of the game, and sophomore left fielder David Kale had a two-RBI triple to knot things up at 3-3. Kale then stole home to give Holy Cross a 4-3 advantage.
  • The Black Knights answered with a three-run fourth after a solo homer and back-to-back RBI doubles put Army back into the lead, 6-4.
  • Army added two extra runs in the sixth, but junior center fielder Austin Masel robbed John McKenna with a leaping catch at the wall.
  • Masel kept that momentum, immediately hitting a leadoff homer to begin the seventh inning, cutting the Army advantage to 8-5, but the Crusaders were unable to rally further in the final innings.
