BOSTON – The Holy Cross softball team lost to Boston University, 2-0, in eight innings Sunday morning.
Kelly Nelson pitched 7+ innings allowing eight hits, two runs, no walks and striking out six. Alyssa Gutierrez went 1-for-2 with a triple and Sydney Behrens and Hannah Horton were both 1-for-3. Five Crusaders reached base after taking ball four and Erin Bengston caught a runner stealing second.
Holy Cross had chances against a talented Terrier team, but were never able to push a run across despite having a runner on third three times.

Second Inning:
- The Terriers started the inning out with a double, but couldn't do anything else and Nelson ended the inning with a strikeout.
Third:
- For the second inning in a row with a runner on second, Nelson ended the frame with a strikeout, this time after a two-out double.
Fifth:
- Brewster drew a one-out walk for the first Crusader baserunner of the day.
- Horton followed with a single to left center to put runners on first and third with two outs, but the Terriers worked out of it.
Sixth:
- Gutierrez started the inning with a triple to right center, but after a strikeout and a couple nice defensive plays, BU was able to end the inning without letting a run score.
- The Terriers started their half with a single, but were immediately caught stealing.
- They followed it with a two-out double, but again Nelson was able to end the inning with a runner in scoring position.
Seventh:
- The Crusaders had runners on first and second after a walk and a single, but BU kept them off the board again.
- With runners on second and third with one out, Nelson struck out the next two Terriers to bring the game to extras.
Eighth:
- Carley Boothe, Bengston, and Bailey Chavez all walked and the Crusaders had the bases loaded with one out. The Terriers ended the inning with a double play.
- In the bottom half, BU won the game with a two-run, walk-off home run.

Holy Cross is back in action on Tuesday at home against Harvard at 4:30 p.m.
