Game 2 Box Score
WORCESER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team lost its final two games at the St. John's Invitational Sunday afternoon.
The Crusaders fell, 5-0, to Hofstra, followed by an 8-0 loss to the host team, St. John's.
Taylor Wahler, Erin Bengston, Bella Jankowski, and Hannah Horton all had hits on the day, while Bailey Chavez and Alexandra Held each reached base safely on walks. In the circle, Kelly Nelson got the start in the first game and went five innings, giving up three earned runs, while striking out two. Against St. John's in the second game, Katie Barbarick took to the circle first and went two innings giving up two earned runs.
Against Hofstra, Holy Cross threatened in the first inning when Chavez started the game with a lead off walk. With two outs, Bengston singled to left and Chavez attempted to score from second, but was out at home on the throw.
In the sixth, the Crusaders had runners at first and second after Alyssa Gutierrez was hit by a pitch and Wahler singled, each with two outs. But the Pride was able to get out of the inning without giving up a run.
Against St. John's, the team's best opportunity came in the third inning. Horton started things off with a single and eventually the Crusaders had runners on second and third with only one out. St. John's was able to pitch its way out of the jam and recorded the last two outs on ground outs.
UP NEXT:
Holy Cross will play its first home games of the season this Wednesday in a doubleheader against Stony Brook starting at 2 p.m. before beginning Patriot League play against Army the following weekend.
